Piney Creek Kennel's Search and Rescue Unit consists of three bloodounds, Reuben, Molly, and Ally. I train and handle all three dogs. I have been training/handling my own search and rescue dogs since 1996. Prior to handling my own hounds, I assisted another handler with the training of her dogs. We became members of the Pope County (Arkansas) K-9 Unit in April of 2001. We are also one of the founding members of the Arkansas Alliance of Bloodhound Search Specialists (AABSS) which was formed during 2005.
We maintain a regular training program which includes frequent training sessions (at least weekly) in both the field and the classroom. Training weekends and seminars are also part of our training protocol. Classroom work consists of maintaining and improving our knowledge of search strategies, navigation using by map/compass & GPS, first aid and CPR for both humans and canines, and many other areas.
Our goal is to provide a well trained, professional K-9 team to serve our community and surrounding areas. We train to respond to as many situations as we can in the speciality areas of our canines. When a situation calls for resources beyond the scope of our training programs, we provide referrals for other appropriate canine resources.
