Weekend
The 7th Annual Search Dog Training
Weekend was held in Pope County, Arkansas the weekend of May 19-22,
2006.
The terrain in the area
provides opportunities to train on a variety of obstacles. Some of the
features around the training area includes: Big Piney Creek, Little
Piney Creek, Illinios Bayou, numerous other small creeks and streams,
Ozark National Forest, Arkansas River, numerous hiking trails and
camping areas, and urban/suburban work.
A total of
18 K-9 teams attended the weekend from Arkansas, Oklahoma,
Missouri, Texas, Kansas, and Illinois. Support personnel for the
weekend
included members of the Arkansas Alliance of Bloodhound Search
Specialists, Pope County Office of Emergency Management, Arkansas Tech
University Emergency Administration & Management Program and
support members from various K-9 Units. Training exercises held during
the course of the weekend included scenarios in man-trailing, cadaver
work, and air-scenting. Handlers and support personnel also had the
opportunity to work with the Russellville Animal Clinic personnel on
emergency K-9 First Aid, the AirEvac Lifeteam #22 based out of Paris
Arkansas, and individuals from the Friendship Services Independent
Living Program.
