The 6th Annual Search Dog Training Weekend was held
May 20-23, 2005 in Pope County, Arkansas. Base camp for the weekend was
at Camp Caudle. The terrain in the area provided opportunities to train
on a variety of obstacles. Some of the features around the training
area include: Big Piney Creek, Little Piney Creek, Illinois Bayou,
numerous other small creeks and streams, Ozark National Forest,
Arkansas River, numerous hiking and camping areas, and urban areas.
A total of 29 K-9 teams attended the weekend from Arkansas, Oklahoma,
Missouri, Texas, Tennessee, and Ohio. Support personnel for the weekend
included members of the Pope County Office of Emergency Management and
support members from various K-9 Units. Training exercises held during
the course of the weekend included scenarios in man-trailing, cadaver
work, and air-scenting. Handlers and support personnel also had the
opportunity to practice emergency K-9 first aid, navigational
exercises, and radio communications. Please email me to be added to
the mailing list or to request additional information for next years
